BATANGAS Police Provincial Office Director Col. Pedro Soliba on Wednesday led all 34 chiefs of police in the province in the conduct of a mandatory drug test.
The Batangas Police Provincial Office launched a surprise drug test among its senior officers in a bid to cleanse the Philippine National Police of officers involved in illegal drugs.
Two force commanders and five support service personnel also underwent the drug testing.
The drug test was conducted during a conference held at the Multi-Purpose Center of Camp Miguel C. Malvar in Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City.
Officers were prohibited to go outside without having been tested.
Art. III, Section 36, Paragraph (e) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 provides that officers and employees of public offices shall undergo random drug testing.
Also, Civil Service Circular 13 states that the objective of the random drug testing is to ensure that government agencies remain drug-free.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos earlier appealed to all PNP full-pledged colonels and generals to submit their courtesy resignation as part of the government’s effort to rid the police force of officers involved in the illegal drug trade.
“Batangas PPO will continue to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs to eradicate those who take advantage of their position instead of doing their duties and responsibilities as public servant,” Soliba said.
