Zonta Club Greater Rizal I – President Julie M. Choy and Cainta Municipal Health Officer Dr. Edgardo M. Gonzaga underlines the importance of proper information and awareness of health issues to students of Felix P. Francisco Memorial National High School in Cainta, Rizal during the launching of the “8 IN 1 Advocacy /Service Projects” for high school students held at the One Cainta College Auditorium on October 13, 2022
Cainta, Rizal – Zonta Club of Greater Rizal in partnership with the local government of Cainta yesterday, October 13, 2022, launched the “8 IN 1 Advocacy /Service Projects” for high school students at the One Cainta College Auditorium with the theme “Build A Better World for Women and Girls”.
The event was attended by more than a hundred third year high students of Felix P. Francisco Memorial National High School and various barangay health workers of Cainta, Rizal.
According to Zonta Club Greater Rizal I – President Julie M. Choy, the project aims to provide students knowledge and self-awareness on the present social and health issues.
“We are creating an atmosphere where our youth can have a better understanding of these current concerns issues which affects them. And educate and give them the tools and understanding on how to manage and prevent them in order to preserve their health and well-being,” Choy stated.
“Kailangan natin silang mabigyan ng sapat na health education for them to acquire a functional health knowledge at upang mapalakas natin ang kanilang personal attitudes, beliefs at practice skills para maka-adopt sila at masustain ang healthy behavior practices at madala nila ito sa kanilang pagtanda.”
Among the important topics discussed during the orientation were mental health, climate change, disaster preparedness management, prevention of early teenage pregnancy and marriage.
Cainta Municipal Health Officer Dr. Edgardo M. Gonzaga said that raising awareness in schools is very important since young students are the ones being affected. “Ang mga impormasyong maibibigay natin sa kanila ay magiging gabay for them to be able to go through the process of dealing with their inner issues.”
“Effective delivery of health education including sexual health, violence prevention, mental and emotional health reduces adolescent health risks. And providing health education as early as possible can help them develop positive out-look, academic success and healthy outcomes throughout their lives,” Gonzaga emphasized.
Health services including free HIV testing and hearing examination were also provided to students during the event.
