ACKNOWLEDGING the changing educational needs of students, the House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously approved with 255 affirmative votes on third and final reading House Bill 9936 which seek to provide the Department of Education with the flexibility to determine the most effective approach to teaching basic education.
The bill, which would amend Republic Act 10533, or the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013,” is aimed at ensuring that students gain mastery of knowledge and skills required in each succeeding grade level.
The House also unanimously approved on third and final reading with 255 votes HB 9978, or the proposed “Moratorium on Payment of Student Loan Act” granting the postponement of the collection of student loans for a reasonable duration during and following the occurrence of disasters and other emergencies.
Also approved was HB 9982, to be known as the “Strengthened Higher Education Institutions Act,” which aims to strengthen the supervisory and regulatory role of the government in all public and private higher education institutions (HEIs).
Other bills unanimously approved on final reading were: 1) HB 9979, further amending Republic Act 7836, or the “Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994,” as amended by RA 9293, with 255 votes; 2) HB 10003, or the “Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI) Act,” with 259 votes; and 3) HB 10049, further promoting entrepreneurship by strengthening, empowering and enhancing the financing and other support programs for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The bill received 258 votes, and would amend RA 6977, or the Magna Carta for MSMEs, as amended, once enacted into law.
