PUBLIC school teachers should feel secure that their children are receiving proper care while they are at work, Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar said as she proposed the establishment of nursery and childcare facilities within the premises or near learning institutions where they work.
In pursuit of this, Villar has filed House Bill No. 9582 which proposes the putting up of learning facilities where young children can receive age-appropriate care and education from qualified professionals.
Such facilities, which shall be not more than one kilometer from the school where the teachers are employed, shall be designed based on the standards set by the Departments of Education, Social Welfare and Development and the local government unit where the facilities are located.
Villar said that to ensure that young children are efficiently taught, the school-based nursery and childcare facilities shall be supervised and monitored by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“By establishing nursery and childcare facilities within the premises or within reasonable vicinity from the public schools, teachers will feel assured that their children receive the proper care while they are performing their functions,” Villar said.
The lawmaker from Las Piñas said an annual evaluation shall be conducted by the DepEd and the DSWD to assess the effectiveness, affordability, and accessibility of the childcare facilities, monitor service delivery, and identify areas for improvement.
“This measure seeks to recognize the valuable role teachers play in molding future generations and to support their work-life balance effectively,” Villar also said.
