DIARREHA outbreak at the Cabuyao City Jail in Cabuyao, Laguna on Thursday has claimed the lives of two persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
According to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, more than 80 PDL’s are suffering from diarrhea, which was blamed on contaminated water supply in the jail facility.
But BJMP spokesman Xavier Solda said the outbreak is now under control.
Of the affected inmates, 29 were advised to continue receiving medical treatment.
As of Sept. 22, about 28 PDLs have diarrhea active cases, 52 are in recovery stage, two died and five are under IV fluid treatment.
The local government of Cabuyao City has provided the detention facility with mineral water and water dispensers to fight the outbreak.
Water filters are also installed in the faucets.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Red Cross provided the PDL at the Cabuyao City Jail with oresol, metronidazole antibiotics, IV fluids and underpads.
It also also sent 10,000 liters of clean water and water bladders for the 657 PDL’s at the jail.
BJMP chief Allan Iral instructed their health service and the warden of Cabuyao City Jail to monitor the health conditions of the PDLs.
