‘Sue me, ‘wag puro dada!’ – Teves tells prosecution

By Justine Rich Talusan

NEGROS Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. urged the prosecution and law enforcement agencies to file charges against him only if they possess concrete evidence.

Teves lamented that he was being tried and convicted in the court of public opinion.

“Bakit ako tina-trial by publicity? Kung malakas kaso nila, kasuhan na nila ako sa korte. Puro kayo dada. Gusto lang nila akong siraan. Pakitanong na din sa kanila na kung totoo silang malinis,” Teves said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source.

Teves, who has been implicated in the murder of provincial Gov. Roel Degamo and eight others, has expressed his frustration over being tried and convicted in the court of public opinion.

He also denied anew ownership of the guns and explosives allegedly seized from his house, claiming these were all planted.

Teves’ counsel, attorney Ferdinand Topacio, recently said the lawmaker had already surrendered the firearms after receiving information that authorities would be raiding his properties for lose firearms.

“Sino naman tanga maglalagay or mag-iiwan ng kahit anong gamit sa bahay niya kung alam nang ire-raid? January pa lang. Hindi naman ako pinanganak kahapon,” the Negros solon said.

On the statement of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla about the process of designating him as a terrorist has begun, Teves answered: “How can they start the process when I am not yet guilty? Why are you pointing fingers at me, Boss Boying? I am innocent. My family has been dragged into this, and the worst part is that there is no rule of law,” Teves said.

Last week, Remulla disclosed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has already taken steps to designate Teves as a terrorist under the Anti-Terrorism Law.

“We’re moving on it. We’re starting the preliminary motion. We’re already talking to the people we need to talk to,” Remulla said.

Teves is facing a string of criminal and administrative charges, in addition to his terrorist designation
