IN a vibrant celebration of Women’s Month, Tingog Partylist, led by Representative Yedda Romualdez, kicked off the festivities with a powerful message of solidarity, empowerment, and unity for women in the Philippines. The event, held in Tandang Sora, Quezon City, was a collaboration with Representative Marivic Co-Pilar and saw the participation of 6,000 women from the 11 Barangays of District 6, Quezon City, making it not just a festive gathering but also a powerful statement of solidarity against sexual violence and a celebration of women’s strength and resilience.
The Sumayaw Umindak 2.0 Kick-Off Celebration was the highlight of the day, symbolizing a united stand in the global One Billion Rising movement against sexual violence. This movement, which began on Valentine’s Day in 2012, highlights the alarming statistic that one in three women will be subjected to violence or rape in her lifetime. The dance performance was described as a “disruptive, joyful, and artistic way of resistance,” embodying the spirit of revolution and poetic energy.
Tingog Partylist has been at the forefront of championing women’s rights and welfare through significant legislative efforts. Under the leadership of Rep. Yedda Romualdez, the party has successfully spearheaded the enactment of critical laws such as the Expanded Maternity Leave Act, Safe Spaces Act, Parent Effectiveness Services Program Act, Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, and the Maternal Surname for Legitimate Children Bill. These laws represent a monumental step forward in providing Filipino women with the support and protection they deserve.
In addition to legislative achievements, Tingog Partylist has also focused on empowering women through livelihood programs. By partnering with over 50 women’s groups in regional areas, they have brought much-needed economic opportunities to women who need them most.
The event also included a gesture of appreciation for the women of District 6, with Rep. Yedda Romualdez and the office of Speaker Martin Romualdez distributing grocery items as a token of gratitude. This act of kindness was meant to convey deep appreciation for the contributions of women to their communities and the nation.
As Women’s Month continues, Tingog Partylist’s commitment to building a safer and more meaningful community for women remains unwavering. Through unity and support, they aim to ensure that the spirit of empowerment and justice for women is carried throughout the year and into the future.
