“President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. issuance of Executive Order No. 47 is one step forward towards the attainment of a sustainable peace and stability in the land.” This is how Agusan del Norte Representative Dale Corvera view the move of the President as he welcome the granting of amnesty to former communist and secessionist rebels which he said “shows the sincerity of government in wanting peace and in helping former rebels rebuild their lives in an atmosphere of healing and reconciliation and proceed to address other problems of the country that hinders growth.”
Corvera, a former Governor of Agusan del Norte, recalled that he was witness to the mass surrender of communist rebels when Executive Order No. 70 was issued by then President Rodrigo Duterte adopting a “whole of nation approach” in fighting insurgency. He observed that there were more who wanted to return to the fold of the law but were prevented by fear of prosecution of their pending cases in court. With this amnesty, he said, they will be encouraged to come down and start a new life with their families and avail of the ECLIP or the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government for former rebels.
This latest move of the President is a fulfillment of what he promised to do during his second SONA.
