ALBAY 2nd District Representative and House Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda said the country’s inflation is under control.
“As usual, it’s still about rice, but we are looking more at year-on-year effects now, rather than a continuing momentum of price increases. In other words, it’s not getting worse. It was 3.9 percent last month” Salceda said.
He said that President Bongbong Marcos is expected to create more measures to reduce tariffs on rice and boost agricultural production and will yield results in the figures for next month.
The lawmaker is also hopeful on the El Nino’s impact on fuel, water, and electricity prices that will dissipate as the rains begin.
“The BSP I think will remain relatively slow to make any moves on interest rates — until we see inflation in the 2-3 percent range. So, for now, no major shakeups in monetary policy” he added.
“I generally believe there should be no limits to the right to lease property. It’s a cancellable contract that can be subject to rules and safeguards anyway” Salceda stressed.
“That was one of the first agenda items Sec. Deck Go broached to me when he was appointed to the cabinet. I wholeheartedly support it” he said.
Salceda explained that a piece of legislation must not be prohibited by the Constitution, it is a workaround, plain and simple.
