CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, San Fernando City, La Union – THE Philippine National Police – Regional Office 1 arrested six individuals in various check points in Pangasinan for violating the gun ban mandated by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on January 12, 2025. the first day of the election period.
Among the confiscated firearms were five small side arms and one firearm replica.
PRO 1 Regional Director PBGEN LOU F EVANGELISTA, stressed the significance of conducting checkpoint operations as part of its heightened security measures in preparation for the upcoming election.
“Palagi nating ipaalala sa mga mamamayan ang kahalagahan ng pagsunod sa batas sa panahong ito ng eleksyon. Nararapat nating sundin ang mga do’s and don’ts ngayong election season, kabilang na ang prohibition on carrying firearms without authorization and other election offenses,” he stated.
“Mahigpit din nating ipina-paalala ang kahalagahan ng pakikipag-cooperate sa ating mga pulis na nakatalaga sa mga comelec checkpoint. Ang mga hakbang na ito ay hindi lamang basta alituntunin—ito ay mahalagang bahagi ng ating sama-samang layunin na masiguro ang isang mapayapa, ligtas, at maayos na eleksyon. Sa tulong ng pagkakaisa at pakikipagtulungan, maitataguyod natin nang mahusay ng ating halalan,” he emphasized.
The arrested individuals were taken into police custody and will face appropriate charges.
PNPRO1 assured the public that they will continue their comprehensive operations throughout the duration of the election period.
The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to firearms or other possible violations.
