SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — Behind her steady smile and tireless public service, Laguna Governor Sol Aragones faced a deeply personal battle that few people knew — a health scare that nearly upended her life and strengthened her faith and resolve to serve.
Before completing her first 100 days in office, Governor Aragones was hospitalized after doctors discovered a large lump above her chest — a moment she described as one of the most frightening experiences of her life
The thought of leaving her child, her parents, and the province she swore to serve filled her with fear and uncertainty. “Paano ang mga tao na umaasa sa pag-asa na magkaroon ng maayos na ospital sa lalawigan ng Laguna? Paano ang mga tao na umaasa na magkaroon ng libreng maintenance na gamot?” she asked herself.
In that moment of weakness, she turned to prayer, asking the Lord to grant her strength, not for herself alone, but for the Lagunenses who depend on her leadership.
And as she said, “Tunay na mabait ang Panginoon.”
The medical findings showed that the chances of the lump being cancerous were very low. On the same day she was seen in the hospital, she immediately underwent surgery.
She spent only one night in recovery before insisting on returning to work. “Bukas babalik agad ako sa kapitolyo, bukas itutuloy ko na agad ang pangako sa mga kababayan ko.” And she continued to visit hospitals the next day.
That experience became a turning point in her life, a moment that deepened her faith and strengthened her resolve to serve. “Ang tingin ko sa pagiging gobernador ay hindi kayaman, ay hindi kapangyarihan, kundi isang misyon na tulungan ang Laguna para sa isang maayos na buhay para sa ating mga kababayan.” Following her recovery, Governor Sol immediately resumed her visits to district hospitals, addressing their urgent needs and ensuring that healthcare services continue to improve across Laguna.
Now, as she continues her leadership journey beyond her first 100 days in office, Governor Sol Aragones carries with her not just the lessons of governance, but the profound realization that life, leadership, and faith are deeply intertwined.
For her, this “second life” is a renewed calling to serve with gratitude, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the people of Laguna.
