THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region led by Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco boosted its emergency response efforts with the distribution of hygiene kits, jerry cans with Aquatabs, and Oral Health Family Packages to families affected by the recent Super Typhoon Uwan in Barangays San Agustin and Poro, City in San Fernando, La Union and Dagupan City, Pangasinan on November 15 and November 14, 2025, respectively.
“This initiative forms part of the agency’s commitment to protect communities from potential outbreaks of waterborne and communicable diseases following recent adverse events in these areas,” she stated.
Residents of La Union and Dagupan City who are temporarily residing in evacuation centers benefited from essential hygiene supplies that include soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, and other personal care items.
Jerry cans with Aquatabs were distributed to help ensure access to clean and safe drinking water, while the Oral Health Family Packages support the region’s continuous push for strong dental hygiene practices among families.
Sydiongco stressed the importance of rapid health action saying that protecting communities begins with ensuring access to the basics—safe water, proper hygiene, and oral care.
“These interventions lessen the risk of disease and safeguard the well-being of our most vulnerable families. DOH Ilocos Region stands ready to serve its people as they navigate to recovery,” she said.
Health personnel from DOH Ilocos Region are working closely with the local government units to facilitate an orderly and efficient distribution process. Special attention was given to households with children, senior citizens, pregnant and lactating women, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that those with the greatest needs received immediate support.
Sydiongco assures the public that personnel from the DOH Ilocos Region will continue to be on the ground to monitor the health situation and will deploy additional support as necessary.
She also reminds residents to practice proper hygiene, ensure water safety, and seek medical consultation when symptoms of illness arise.
