THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region proudly congratulates the Local Government Unit of Bacnotan, La Union for being named the Ilocos Region’s 2024 Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN)—a prestigious honor conferred by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in recognition of sustained excellence in nutrition program implementation.
The award was formally bestowed during the 2025 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on December 15, 2025 at the Manila Hotel, and was proudly received by Mayor Divina Fontanilla, Dr. Andy Mendoza, and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) John Philip Gabriel, underscoring the strong leadership and collaborative efforts behind Bacnotan’s nutrition gains.
Joining the awarding rites were Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Chairperson Dir. Paula Paz Sydiongco of DOH–CHD Ilocos and OIC Nutrition Program Coordinator Kendall Gatan of NNC Ilocos, who both lauded Bacnotan’s consistent, data-driven, and people-centered approach to addressing malnutrition.
“Bacnotan’s CROWN award reflects years of committed leadership, strong intersectoral collaboration, and community participation. This achievement sets a high bar for local governments in the Ilocos Region,” Regional Director and RNC Chairperson Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated.
“May this distinction continue to sustain Bacnotan’s unwavering commitment to nutrition excellence, marked by effective policies, responsive programs, and sustained outcomes that protect and promote the health and well-being of its constituents—especially children, mothers, and vulnerable populations,” she added.
DOH Ilocos Region celebrates this milestone and calls on other LGUs to draw inspiration from Bacnotan’s best practices, as the region continues its collective pursuit of a malnutrition-free, healthier Ilocos.
