
THE House of Representatives, led by Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, on Friday approved on Second Reading the proposed ₱6.793-trillion General Appropriations Bill (GAB) for Fiscal Year 2026, as amended.
Committee on Appropriations Chairperson and budget sponsor Rep. Mikaela Angela Suansing assured her colleagues that all proposed amendments to the 2026 national budget were thoroughly discussed and properly reflected in the version passed by the panel.
She also said that no additional amendments would be introduced following the GAB’s approval on second reading.
During the period of individual amendments, lawmakers engaged in discussions on several proposed changes to the budget. Suansing explained and defended the majority’s positions and addressed clarifications raised by members regarding the adjustments made in the measure.
The House also elected South Cotabato Rep. Ferdinand Hernandez as one of the Deputy Speakers, joining those who assist Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III in presiding over sessions and carrying out other legislative duties.
Additionally, the House also elected Galing sa Puso (GP) Partylist Rep. Jan Padiernos as a member of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET), Lanao del Sur Rep. Ziaur-Rahman Alonto Adiong as chairperson of the Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, and Tarlac Rep. Noel Rivera as chairperson of the Special Committee on Reforestation.
