THE House of Representatives on Monday passed on third and final reading a total of 12 priority measures of the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) before suspending for Christmas break.

The Chamber’s deep concern for the different sectors of Philippine society was apparent in the passage of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) bill, which seeks to institutionalize the said assistance program; the National Reintegration Bill, which seeks to make it easier for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to return to the country economically and socially; and the National Center for Geriatric Health bill, which seeks better medical care for the elderly.

It also prioritized education through the passage of the bills proposing amendments (1) to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education Act, and (2) to the Teachers Professionalization Act.

Other bills passed on third and final reading include the proposed Blue Economy Act, the strengthening of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the bill promoting waste-to-energy technologies, the bill proposing the establishment of Department of Water Resources, the bill proposing amendments to the National Building Code and to the Banks Secrecy Law.

The bill proposing the extension of the estate tax amnesty period also was approved on third and final reading.

Another five (5) LEDAC priority bills are for comment/ concurrence of either the Committees on Appropriations and/or Ways and Means, with another 15 under review of the concerned House Committees.

Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III encouraged his fellow lawmakers to continue serving the people through the passage of important pieces of legislation, and to draw joy from such service.
