LEYTE Representative Martin Romualdez on Thursday strongly denied allegations made against him during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, where a witness claimed that several pieces of luggage containing cash were delivered to a residence linked to him.
Romualdez branded the testimony as “a complete fabrication” and “a desperate attempt” to connect him to supposed kickbacks from infrastructure projects.
“The most telling flaw is the witness’ claim that deliveries were made to McKinley beginning December 2024. That is impossible. The property has been under renovation since January 2024 and was unoccupied except for construction workers,” Romualdez said, adding: “Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus—false in one thing, false in everything.”
The lawmaker described the testimony as politically motivated and coached, vowing not to let the “perjurious statements” pass unchallenged.
“I have never received or benefited from kickbacks in any infrastructure project. I have never authorized, instructed, or allowed anyone to engage in any conduct that would betray the people or taint my name,” he stressed.
Romualdez said he welcomed a fair and transparent investigation to clear his name, noting that he voluntarily resigned as Speaker of the House of Representatives to show support for the inquiry into flood control projects.
“I remained silent out of respect for the process, but now that my name has been maliciously dragged into this controversy, I will fight back—not with rhetoric, but with evidence,” he declared.
The lawmaker ended with a direct assurance to the public: “I have never stolen public funds. I do not need money from illegal means. To the Filipino people, I give you this solemn assurance: I will never betray your trust.”
