AUTHORITIES have launched a hot pursuit operation after several persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) escaped from the Batangas (BPRC) Provincial Rehabilitation Center on Monday morning, July 28.
According to initial police reports, the Ibaan Municipal Police Station (IMPS) received a call around 10:00 AM from jail personnel reporting the escape incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the breakout occurred while a prison guard was escorting inmates to a public utility room inside the facility. One of the inmates allegedly brandished an improvised ice pick and used it to seize the guard’s service firearm, threatening him at gunpoint. The chaos allowed other inmates to overpower the guard and join the escape.
The prisoners fled on foot toward the direction of Barangay Quilo, Ibaan, prompting immediate response from local police.
As of press time, a hot pursuit operation is ongoing to recapture the escapees. Authorities have not yet disclosed the number or identities of the inmates involved.
The Batangas Provincial Police Office (BPPO)and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have been coordinating efforts to secure the surrounding communities and track down the fugitives.
