REPRESENTATIVE Zaldy Co of the Ako Bicol Party-List on Friday said the Legacy Building of the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) is seen to become a landmark for the region in particular and the Philippines in general.
At the capsule laying and groundbreaking ceremony of the 20-story Integrated Specialty Care and Wellness Center Hub of BRHMC, Co underscored the facility’s future role as a comprehensive care center featuring specialized departments for heart, lung and cancer treatments, thereby reducing the need for Bicolanos to travel to Manila.
“This is not just a building; it’s a landmark for our region and our country,” Co said in his speech, as he highlighted the pivotal support of House Speaker Martin Romualdez on this and other projects in the Bicol region.
Apart from infrastructure development, Co shared some good news for Bicol’s medical personnel.
“Matatanggap na ng mga nagtrabaho sa ospital habang may pandemic ang kanilang allowance dahil nabigyan natin ito ng allotment (Those who worked at hospitals during the pandemic will receive their allowance because we made an allotment for this), he said.
Other projects strongly supported by the House Speaker are the improvement of electric supply, the construction of evacuation centers for the disaster-prone region, and construction of the Haven Legacy, a sanctuary for abandoned elderly and abused women and children.
“Sa Albay Electric Cooperative po, binigyan po tayo ni Presidente and our Speaker Martin Romualdez ng worth 300 million para ma-improve ang kuryente, para wala nang brown out sa 2nd district and Legazpi (The President and our Speaker Martin Romualdez gave us P300 million to improve power supply, so that there will be no more brownouts in the second district and Legazpi),” Co said.
The chairman of the House committee on appropriations also cited the historic budget allotted for anti-inflation measures and social services across the country.
“Almost 600 billion or half a trillion pesos ang inilaan ng ating gobyerno, ng ating Pangulo, ng aming Speaker Martin Romualdez ng Kongreso para dito (Almost P600 billion or half a trillion pesos was earmarked by the government, by the President, and by Speaker Martin Romualdez of Congress for this),” Co said.
