THE Special Colorum Team (SCT) of the Land Transportation Office Region VI, under the leadership of OIC-Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, and with the support of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, successfully apprehended another colorum van from Carles town in Northern Iloilo.
An informant tipped off the team about a suspected colorum operation involving a Nissan Urvan with a temporary plate number 060106. The van, private in classification, was reportedly operating as an unauthorized public transport vehicle, transporting passengers from Iloilo City to Carles, Iloilo, and vice versa for PHP 350 each.
After confirming that the vehicle was indeed charging PHP 350 per passenger, thus validating the intelligence report, the van was later intercepted by the SCT at Jaro Plaza, Iloilo City.
The driver, identified as Edbert S. Casipit from Brgy. Bancal, Carles, Iloilo, was arrested for violation of R.A. 11659, amending Commonwealth Act No. 146, otherwise known as the Public Service Act. During the evaluation, it was also discovered that the driver was driving with an expired license and an unregistered van.
Following the arrest, Mr. Casipit was detained at Jaro Police Station 9, pending the proper disposition of his case. The van was impounded at the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center in San Miguel, Iloilo.
