DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco reminded residents who will be going home to their provinces and tourists who will be spending their vacation to ensure a healthy and safe observance of the observe the Holy Week and the summer vacation (SumVac) in the region.
“Semana Santa is one of the longest holidays in the country and it is a popular time for family gatherings and visiting significant places. “Importante na magplano at maging handa upang maging ligtas ang paglalakbay at pagdiriwang ng holy week kasama ang pamilya”.
“It is best to follow safety guidelines to avoid any untoward incidents that may occur”, she emphasized.
Sydiongco enumerated tips on how everyone can stay safe and healthy during this Lenten season such as drinking lots of water to prevent dehydration and heatstroke, especially now that some areas in the provinces are experiencing massive heat indices also to limit sun exposure. “Use an umbrella when sun exposure is unavoidable and avoid wearing dark clothes as it attracts heat instead wear bright comfortable clothing”.
“Sa mga pupunta sa resort or sa beaches, be sure to bring sun screen and don’t forget to supervise your children and avoid swimming after consuming liquor. Practice healthy lifestyle during tis long vacation by having a low-salt, low-fat diet and avoid smoking and alcohol”.
“Sa mga bibiyahe gamit ang kanilang mga sariling sasakyan, always check your vehicle before taking it for as long trip and don’t forget to always wear seat belts or helmets when riding a motorcycle or bicycle”.
“At sa mga motorista, habaan din ang pasensya habang nagmamaneho sa daan upang makaiwas sa road rage,” she stated.
The DOH has already activated a Code White Alert for the entire Holy Week from April 13, Palm Sunday, to April 20, Easter Sunday, as part of its preparations for any health-related incidents that may arise during this period.
