SANTA CRUZ, Laguna— DURING the inauguration of Governor Sol Aragones, Congresswoman Ann Matibag of Laguna’s 1st District delivered a heartfelt message of support, praising the governor’s leadership and commitment to healthcare and education while vowing to champion initiatives that uplift Lagunenses, especially the youth and the underserved.
Rep. Matibag underscored the need to prioritize public health and education, citing the importance of scholarship programs like Scholar ni Lagunanay, which support students who may struggle academically but demonstrate resilience and a desire to uplift their families.
“In San Pedro, we need to give attention not only to top achievers but to hardworking students who dream of a better future for their families,” Matibag said. “Every Lagunanay student facing challenges in school should know—we are here for them.”
The congresswoman also expressed her admiration for Governor Aragones’ dedication to public service, noting that even before assuming office officially, the governor had already begun working and holding office in a private space in San Pedro, with the help of local leaders.
Matibag became emotional as she recalled her long-standing advocacy to improve the San Pedro District Hospital.
She reiterated her full commitment to securing national funding for the hospital’s improvement and modernization, citing her coordination with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
“I told Ate Sol, ‘Ako na ang bahala sa pondo ng San Pedro District Hospital,’” Matibag declared. “We now have strong support from the national government to finally realize this dream.”
Matibag, who has served as a provincial board member and now as congressional representative, also shared a personal reflection.
In 2019, her husband, Atty. Melvin Matibag—then PDP Secretary-General—had predicted Sol Aragones would become governor of Laguna.
“He said, ‘Si Sol ang magiging gobernador ng Laguna,’ and today that vision has come true. This is more than a victory—it’s about vision, compassion, and relentless service,” she said.
The congresswoman defended the now-viral hospital posters initiated by Governor Aragones bearing the message “Bawal ang masungit,” saying the campaign goes beyond appearances. “It’s not just about smiles,” she emphasized. “It’s about dignity. Every patient and every health worker deserves to be treated with care and respect.”
She also commended the governor’s swift and humane approach to governance. “Day one pa lang, may plano na agad. That’s real leadership,” Matibag said.
Pledging continued partnership, she assured the people of Laguna that the 1st District stands in unity with Governor Aragones’ vision.
“As a mother and a public servant, I know that true leadership requires compassion, direction, and strong allies—and that’s what Ate Sol brings to Laguna.”
In closing, Matibag offered a message of gratitude and inspiration:
“Mabuhay ang bawat health worker, bawat pasyente, bawat Scholar ni Lagunanay! Mabuhay ang bawat pamilyang Lagunense.
