BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — Over the weekend, around 2,000 individuals gathered in Batangas City to take part in a Prayer Rally Against Corruption, held in time with the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary.
The event, organized by Saint Bridget College Batangas and joined by several schools, church groups, and civic organizations, aimed to send a strong message to government officials to stop the misuse of public funds.
According to Sister Anya Borbon, RGS, President of Saint Bridget College, the activity was a call for honesty and accountability in governance.
“Our government should be the first to care for the nation—not use public money for personal gain,” Sister Borbon said.
She explained that the program was divided into three parts. The first part was a Holy Mass, offered with the intention of ending corruption. The second part was the prayer rally, where students and faculty members from Saint Bridget College, University of Batangas, Batangas State University, Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Batangas,
Golden Gate College, and other schools joined forces with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, various church ministries, and civic groups. Participants marched along the main roads of Batangas City while praying the Holy Rosary, seeking truth, justice, and the common good.
The third part was a noise barrage, described not as a clamor of protest, but as a “prayer shouted aloud”—a plea for the government to uphold humanity, transparency, and proper allocation of funds for the welfare of the people.
In her message, Sister Borbon urged the public to remain vigilant and prayerful amid challenges in governance.
“Let us not stay silent. Let us show that we are awake,” she said. “If our nation’s funds were used properly, perhaps we could have avoided floods and spared our fellow citizens from hardship. May our united voice be heard—not only by the people, but also by those in government. With God’s help, may our prayers lead to genuine change.”
The event concluded with renewed calls for solidarity, integrity, and active citizenship among Batangueños and the wider Filipino community.
