IN celebration of World Environment Day, the Department of Health – Ilocos Region (DOH Ilocos) brought together creativity, environmental awareness, and youth engagement through a vibrant “Trashion Show” held on October 21, 2025, at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) in Vigan City.
The event, which carried the national theme “Sama-Sama Tungo sa Bansang May Malusog na Clean Air Everywhere,” showcased stunning costumes crafted entirely from organic, recyclable, and upcycled materials. Students from varios colleges of UNP took center stage, turning waste into works of art that symbolized environmental stewardship and collective action toward cleaner air and a healthier future.
In her message, Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized the importance of linking environmental protection with public health.

“Clean air is essential to good health. Through creative initiatives like this “Trashion Show”, we are showing that sustainability can be fun, educational, and deeply impactful. Every small action to reduce waste and pollution contributes to a better community and a healthier Ilocos Region,” she stated.
“This event highlighted how innovative approaches can inspire communities—especially the youth—to adopt eco-friendly habits. The “Trashion Show” was more than a fashion showcase; it was a call to action to minimize waste, recycle, and advocate for policies and practices that ensure “Clean Air Everywhere,” she emphasized.
Students competed in the Most Creative Design and each creation told a story of transformation presented in video presentation, proving that what is often discarded can still hold value and beauty when reimagined for a greener purpose. It also highlighted the creativity and advocacy of Ilocano youth.
Winners of the “Trashion Show” pageant were given P35,000 for the first prize; P30,000 for the second prize and P25,000 for the third. Consolation prizes of P10,000 each were given to all contestants.
