CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Friday assured Laguna residents that concerns raised during the House’s LegisHear public consultation would be brought to Congress for legislative action, particularly on recurring flooding in the Laguna Lake Basin.
The sixth leg of LegisHear gathered a record 31 national government agencies, the highest participation in the consultation series so far, according to Calamba City Lone District Rep. Charisse Anne “Cha” Hernandez, the event’s host.
Lawmakers, government officials and community stakeholders discussed House Resolution No. 906, which calls for a comprehensive, sustainable and integrated flood mitigation and management plan for the Laguna Lake Basin.
The proposed plan seeks to address recurring floods, protect communities and safeguard livelihoods through coordinated infrastructure and watershed management measures, guided by the updated Comprehensive Master Development Plan of the Laguna Lake Development Authority.
Dy said the concerns raised during the consultation would help lawmakers craft responsive measures and address problems that residents have long been seeking to resolve.
“Dapat pakita natin kung paano rin ma-implementa ang ating naisusulong,” Dy said, stressing the need to ensure that legislative initiatives are properly implemented and benefit the public.
He also cited concerns raised by Biñan City Lone District Rep. Walfredo “Arman” Dimaguila Jr., noting that Congress must work toward concrete solutions to long-standing community problems.
Dy earlier joked that the delegation would bring home more than Laguna’s famous buko pie, emphasizing that the more important takeaway was the list of pressing issues raised by residents.
Hernandez said the participation of 31 national agencies underscored the importance of bringing government offices, lawmakers and local communities together to discuss solutions to regional concerns.
The Calamba consultation followed previous LegisHear engagements in Isabela, Butuan, Dumaguete City, Koronadal City in South Cotabato, and Victorias City in Negros Occidental.
The House, under Dy and Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, continues to hold consultations across the country to gather public input and bring legislative discussions closer to the communities affected by government policies.
