A STATE of calamity was declared in Cavite and two provinces in the Bicol region due to the devastations brought by typhoon “Paeng.”
Aside from Cavite, also placed under a state of calamity were Albay and Catanduanes
The Cavite Provincial Council under Vice Gov. Athena Tolentino unanimously approved a resolution placing the entire province under a state of calamity.
Resolution 2195 -2022 declaring the entire province of Cavite under a state of calamity was approved via teleconferencing on Sunday.
The Provincial Council was presided over by acting vice gov. Shernan Jaro.
The Council authorized provincial Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. to use the amount of P50 million from the Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the 2022 Provincial Disaster Risks Reduction and Management Fund for the relief efforts of the provincial government.
According to the rapid damage assessment and needs analysis conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), there is a widespread destruction of crops, livestocks and poultry farms in Magallanes, Maragondon, Naic, Ternate and City of General Trias and reported damage of river walls in General Trias and Noveleta.
A total of 4,000 families or around 13,400 individuals were displaced by “Paeng.”
Meanwhile, Albay and Catanduanes were also placed under a state of calamity.
Albay Gov. Noel Rosal announced the declaration through his Facebook page after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution 0169, Series of 2022.
The official Facebook page of the provincial government of Catanduanes also showed the declaration of a state of calamity.
“With the declaration, the provincial government and municipal local government units can be equipped to respond to the situations in their municipalities brought by Paeng, but to also further prepare for the impending weather disturbances in the remaining months,” the social media post said.
“Paeng” first made landfall in Virac, Catanduanes, at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday and made a second one in Caramoan, Camarines Sur at around 1:40 a.m. of the same day.
The tropical cyclone damaged crops, infrastructure and homes in different parts of Bicol region.
Authorities said more than 100 people died while over two million were affected by “Paeng.”
The Department of Agriculture placed the damage from “Paeng” at P1.3 billion.
