THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) through the Port of Zamboanga successfully condemned forfeited assorted goods by dumping on December 02, 2025. The items disposed of included 281 bales of used clothing or ‘ukay-ukay’, 153 sacks of sugar, and 28 boxes of medicines.
The disposed items were previously forfeited for violations of Republic Act No. 4653 and Republic Act No. 9711, in relation to Section 117 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). This undertaking aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s directive to uphold measures that protect public safety and ensure that only goods meeting legal and quality standards reach Filipino consumers. The proper disposal of these items helps maintain the safety of local markets by ensuring that non-compliant goods are kept out of the supply chain.
The condemnation was streamed live in accordance with Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno’s directive, ensuring full coverage and recording of condemnation activities to promote transparency and accountability in BOC operations.
Representatives from the local government unit were also present during the activity. Additionally, the Sugar Regulatory Administration and the Commission on Audit were invited. While their representatives could not be physically present, both agencies closely monitored the activity through the live broadcast.
Commissioner Nepomuceno highlighted the significance of the condemnation process, stating, “Beyond the seizure of illicit goods, we must ensure their proper and safe disposal to prevent risk or harm to the public and the environment. In line with our commitment to uphold transparency and integrity in all customs operations, we are also implementing the live broadcast of every condemnation activity.”
