San Fernando, La Union – Department of Health (DOH) Region 1 today disclosed that it has further strengthened its Covid-19 response in the province in coordination with all the local government units (LGUs) by augmenting resources all health facilities in response to the surge of Covid cases.
“We have increased the allocation of covid beds in all DOH hospitals in the region namely the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (TRMC) in San Fernando, La Union, the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan, Pangasinan and the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH) and ensure that there are adequate supply of medicines including logistics at the local level,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated.
Sydiongo added that telemedicine consultations were further improved to cater for patients in the remote areas affected by the virus, infection and prevention control (IPC) teams were organized in all LGUs and a regular health cluster meeting with provincial health offices (PHOs) are being conducted to harmonize efforts in the implementation of strategies against Covid-19.
“We have also directed hospitals to implement tighter infection prevention and control policies to safeguard our health workers to prevent them from contracting the virus. Stricter infection prevention and control management in each of our hospitals are currently being observed,”
The regional office is continuously conducting vaccination activities with special focus in the province of Pangasinan where there are still a considerable number of unvaccinated individuals.
“For those individuals who are yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccines, I encourage you to visit vaccination centers get vaccinated for your protection against the virus. All vaccination sites are accepting walk-ins,” Sydiongco assured.
According to the January 28, 2022 DOH Covid-19 Tracker, there are a total of 125,288 recorded cases in the region with 11,087 active cases and 111,974 recoveries. A total of 2,227 have died from the virus.
