San Fernando City, La Union – The Department of Health – San Fernando, La Union Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-SFLUTRC) new dormitory building annex was inaugurated today as the center celebrates its third-year anniversary providing quality medical care and comprehensive rehabilitation services for people who use drugs (PWUDs).
The construction of the new building was funded by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) amounting to ₱4,221,136.20. The project was completed on January 20, 2022.
The new dormitory building annex will be used as an out-patient department.
DOH – Ilocos Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco extended her congratulations and encourage all the staff of the facility to continue helping and working towards the upliftment of PWUDs lives. “Just like our hospitals and mental health centers deal with physical and mental illness, your work in the drug treatment and rehab center is equally important because you help individuals who have substance abuse disorders.”
“And it is very important for a rehab center to have a positive reputation, because trust is essential to a person’s recovery. This center has been a significant part of our community as it offers PWUDs the opportunity and confidence to get back on their feet and a life free from substance use,” Sydiongco stated.
The DOH-SFLUTRC was established on July 19, 2019 to provide psycho-therapeutic treatment to patients and offer them opportunity to enable them to ceased substance abuse and become normal and prolific member of our society.
The center offers counselling, psychological testing and evaluation, medical consultation (severe and non-severe), social classification, health and wellness and advocacy programs designed to minimize the effect of chronic conditions such as drug addiction.
According to Hermenegilda D. Salangad, DOH-SFLUTR Chief of Hospital, since the establishment of the facility, they have conducted 33 drug dependency examination, enrolled seven patients in its outpatient program where four PWUDs has successfully completed course and six enrolled in its aftercare program.
She added at there were two individuals who have become successful members of their staff after completing the center’s aftercare program and a series of rehabilitation courses. “These individuals have been a part of our success stories proving that there is hope for our PWUDs,”
Among the other activities during the anniversary celebration is the signing of MOA of support between LGUs, DOH-Ilocos Region and SFLUTRC and the signing of pledge of support of heads and representatives of various government agencies for a drug-free Ilocandia.
