DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region will be targeting around 600 school learners from Grades 11-12 of the Urdaneta City National High School to conduct road safety awareness campaign during the celebration World Day of Remembrance (WDOR) for Road Traffic Victims on November 14-15, 2024.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the activity was held in Pangasinan because most road traffic accidents occur in the province with young drivers involved. “Karamihan na nadidisgrasya ay mga kabataan at nakamotorsiklo. Every time they drive a vehicle, they face elevated risk than more experienced drivers because of their relative inexperience kasama na dito ang konting kaalaman sa batas trapiko.”
“Marami ng mga high school students na gumagamit ng motorsiklo pagpasok sa paaralan. And it is important for schools to be part of this endeavor because they have a responsibility to educate and provide the right knowledge to students on proper skills, and attitudes when driving a motor vehicle,” she stated.
“With the proper knowledge and skill, we can lessen traffic deaths and injuries not only to motorists but to pedestrians and all road users as well.”
The WDOR will focus on road safety initiatives including raising awareness on the five (5) pillars of road safety including road safety management, safer roads and mobility, safer vehicles, safer road users, and post-crash response.
These pillars aim to enhance access to pre-hospital care, trauma care, and rehabilitation for road crash victims.
Among the activities in lined for students are hands-on CPR, tri-skill training including rescue carry technique, proper bandaging ang splinting technique, and fire-fighting. A seminar on the five pillars of the road action safety plan will be conducted.
