THE Ilocos Sur Medical Center (ISMC), one of the hospitals of the Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos formally opened its Hemodialysis Unit on December 1, 2025 to provide and strengthen access to life-saving kidney care services for patients across Ilocos Sur and neighboring provinces.
The ceremony was led by Medical Center Chief Angel D. Trinidad III and ISMC officials who officially unveiled the unit—marking a significant advancement in the hospital’s capacity to serve individuals with chronic kidney disease who require regular hemodialysis.
“This development greatly reduces the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances just to access dialysis services,” Dr. Trinidad said.
“Opening a dedicated Hemodialysis Unit right here in Ilocos Sur not only brings essential services closer to communities but also ensures that patients receive high-quality, compassionate care.”
Equipped with modern dialysis machines, complete safety systems, and a team of skilled and specially trained healthcare personnel, the new facility is designed to deliver efficient and comfortable treatment for patients requiring continuous dialysis sessions.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting hospitals in expanding critical services. “Every new health facility, every new service we launch is a step toward a stronger, more responsive healthcare system,” she added.
“This Hemodialysis Unit reflects our shared goal with local leaders—ensuring that no patient is left behind, especially those battling chronic illnesses.”
Hospital leaders likewise expressed gratitude for the support provided by the local government and DOH. The opening of the unit aligns with ISMC’s long-term plan to improve patient care and enhance service delivery.
Patients who wish to avail of dialysis services at ISMC are advised to prepare the following documents: Dialysis Endorsement / Referral Form; Last three (3) hemodialysis treatment sheets (photocopy); and photocopy of latest laboratory results including HBsAg, Anti-HCV, Anti-HBs.
“Healthcare must always be accessible and equitable. The DOH Ilocos Region remains committed to uplifting hospital services so every patient receives the care they deserve—when they need it, where they need it,” Sydiongco concluded.
