
THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) CALABARZON announced the April 2024 inflation in CALABARZON via hybrid press conference on 15 May 2024. Regional Director Charito C. Armonia reported that the prices of commodities in the region increased by 3.6 percent. This increment is lower than the increase in March 2024 which stood at 3.7 percent.
Lower increment in prices for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels commodity group compared to the previous month’s rate contributed to the deceleration in the overall inflation rate (IR). The average price increase was recorded at 1.9 percent in April 2024, from 2.4 percent in March 2024. Also, contributing to the decrease in inflation were the lower increase of prices of Restaurants and Accommodation Services and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco commodity groups which were recorded at 7.4 and 3.9 percent in April 2024, from 8.3 and 5.7 percent in March 2024, respectively.
Likewise, lower increase in prices of commodities were also recorded in three provinces in April 2024. Batangas posted an IR of 3.6 percent, from 4.7 percent in March; Cavite at 2.7 percent, from 3.1 percent in March; and Rizal at 5.4 percent, from 5.5 percent in March. On the other hand, higher increase in prices of commodities were posted in Quezon province at 2.3 percent to 4.5 percent in April and City of Lucena from 2.9 percent to 4.5 percent in April. While Laguna recorded the same inflation rate compared to March 2024 at 2.8 percent.
