THE Provincial Government of Laguna officially launched its Pilgrimage Tourism Program on November 22 at the National Shrine and Parish Church of San Antonio de Padua in Pila, marking the start of a province-wide initiative to celebrate Laguna’s rich heritage, spiritual traditions, and cultural landmarks. The event gathered provincial leaders, church officials, and local stakeholders in a meaningful celebration of faith, culture, and community identity.

Leading the province’s efforts, Governor Sol Aragones, together with the Laguna Tourism, Culture, Arts and Trade Office (LTCATO) headed by Edgardo Victorio, underscored the program’s goal of promoting Laguna as a premier destination for pilgrimage travel. The ceremony opened with a Holy Mass participated in by Governor Aragones and officials of the pamahalaang panlalawigan ng Laguna, with Rev. Mons. Jerry Bitoon and Rev. Fr. Emil Urriquia presiding. The governor shared, “Araw ng katuparan na minsang isang panaginip lamang. Di lang simbahan ang bida dito kundi ang mga produkto ng lahat ng bayan sa Laguna.”

Pila Mayor Queen Alarva delivered a heartfelt message, expressing pride that the historic town was chosen as the starting point of the pilgrimage circuit. “Ang bayan ng Pila ay tunay na pinagpala dahil ang pilgrimage tourism ng ating lalawigan ay dito magsisimula,” she said, emphasizing the town’s cultural and spiritual significance in Laguna’s history. Governor Aragones added, “Di lamang kalusugan ang prayoridad kundi ispritwal din ng bawat Lagunense ang dapat iangat.”

The launch also featured a covenant signing through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the provincial government and participating municipalities, formalizing collaboration for the pilgrimage program. The event highlighted the province’s commitment to strengthening tourism through meaningful experiences rooted in faith, culture, and community identity. With Pila serving as the first stop, the program aims to connect various churches, shrines, and religious sites across Laguna, offering pilgrims a deeper understanding of local traditions and devotion.

As Laguna opens its doors to faith-based travelers, the provincial government hopes to boost local tourism, support community livelihoods, and preserve sacred sites for future generations. The Pilgrimage Tourism Program stands as a testament to Laguna’s dedication to nurturing both cultural pride and spiritual enrichment throughout the province.
