DURING a press conference Wednesday, House members shared their opinions regarding the “Absolute Divorce Bill” that is gaining traction again in the plenary.
Manila Rep. Ernesto Dionisio Jr. stressed the significance of thoroughly analyzing and deliberating on the elements of the “Absolute Divorce Bill” before committing to its potential passage on third reading.
He said that the opinion of each lawmaker, as representatives of each district, is significant in this matter and that ideas emerge most effectively through debate.
“But you know, habang ginagawa natin ‘yung proseso at pinag-uusapan, nagkakaroon ng debate, then some of the congressmen realize things. Probably, at the start against sila and after hearing the good points, eventually they would agree, or vice versa. Kaya ‘yung proseso importante,” Dionisio said.
Lanao del Sur Rep. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, speaking on behalf of Muslim legislators, stated that they will be supporting the bill as divorce is acknowledged in the religion of Islam.
For his part, La Union Rep. Francisco Paolo Ortega said he is working on some provisions to streamline the annulment procedure as an alternative to divorce.
In a separate press conference, Marikina City Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo stated that certain parameters must be taken into account before proceeding with the divorce law.
Quimbo also said that potential amendments can be done to the current framework concerning separation. Nonetheless, she remains receptive to alternative viewpoints on the dissolution of marriage.
