Marcos orders gov’t agencies to ensure safe, timely repatriation of 200 Pinoys in Israel, Iran

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday directed concerned agencies to ensure the safe and timely repatriation of over 200 Filipinos amid the rising tensions between Israel and Iran.

“I have directed all concerned government agencies to take the necessary steps to ensure the safe, timely, and orderly return of Filipinos who wish to avail of the voluntary repatriation program,” President Marcos said in a recorded message.

The Chief Executive said Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Cacdac is in Amman, Jordan, to receive the first batch of 26 repatriates from Israel. The government through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised Alert Level 3 in Israel and Iran, which calls for voluntary repatriation.

“In Israel… we are processing over 200 requests for repatriation — and we are moving quickly to bring them home, while others have opted to remain at work,” President Marcos said.

The President said that food packs and financial assistance have already been provided to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), many of whom are staying at the government’s Migrant Workers Office hostel, with additional space available if needed.

“We continue to monitor our OFW caregiver, who remains in the hospital, stable but still on oxygen support and a ventilator. We are in touch with her family and are making sure she gets the care she needs,” President Marcos said.

The President stated that the Philippine Embassy in Iran is preparing for the repatriation of an initial batch of eight Filipinos in the coming days.

“Upon arrival in the Philippines, they will receive immediate support — including PhP150,000 in assistance, accommodation, transport, and livelihood support with training vouchers to help them recover and start again,” President Marcos said.

The Chief Executive assured continued government assistance for Filipinos who choose to stay home for good, including skills training, job matching, startup capital, and support to start a small business or explore new opportunities.

“I urge our fellow Filipinos to coordinate with our embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran. Please follow their guidance, inform them of your situation, and do not hesitate to ask for assistance,” President Marcos said.

“Your government continues to act and is ready to serve to protect your safety and well-being. Nothing is more important than the safety of every Filipino,” the President added. |
