AN officer of the New People’s Army in Eastern Visayas surrendered to the authorities in Gandara, Samar.
Police Regional Office 8 director Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac identified the surrenderer as Dennis Loberando alias “Ka Yamog/Clemn,” a 24-year-old team leader of the NPA’s Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda operating in Samar province.
Loberando turned over one 9mm semi-automatic pistol with defaced serial numbers, a magazine containing five live ammunition and a fragmentation grenade during his surrender last Tuesday
The former rebel yielded to officials of the Samar Police Provincial Office’s 802nd Provincial Mobile Force Company under Capt. Michael Ray Cañete, the PRO8 Regional Mobile Force Battalion led by Maj. Norman Kiat-Ong Jr. and the Gandara Municipal Police Station headed by Lt. Norben Carbonera.
The surrenderer is now in the custody of the Gandara police.
Banac said the application of Loberando to avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, which allows rebel returnees to return to the mainstream of the society and have a livelihood to feed their families, is now being processed
