
THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) proudly celebrates its PCG athletes from the Philippine National Bobsled Luge and Skeleton Association (PNBLSA) for their outstanding performance at the 5th Korea Cup at PyeongChang, South Korea on 27 to 28 February 2025.
The Two-woman Bobsled Team secured silver, with Driver Apprentice Seawoman Reah Joy Sumalpong PCG and Brakeman Apprentice Seawoman Shirley G Salamagos PCG finishing with an impressive time of 1:50.20.
Meanwhile, the Two-man Bobsled Team delivered a strong performance, placing 4th with a time of 1:48.13 under the guidance of PNBLSA Presidents Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr. and Mr. Norman Camungol.
The podium finish of the PCG Athletes in the sport is the first of the country in Asia and highlights the rise of Philippines in winter sports.
From training in Manila’s scorching heat to competing in -21°C conditions, these PCG athletes have demonstrated remarkable resilience, skill, and determination on the world stage. Despite having just four months of winter training, they made history and showcased the unwavering spirit of Filipino athletes.
The Coast Guard athletes extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Commandant of the PCG, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, for his unwavering support that led to this outstanding achievement.
