IF ever an impeachment complaint is filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, one of the leaders of the Young Guns of the House of Representatives said that any decision to support such a proceeding rests with individual members of the chamber.
Khonghun underscored the autonomy of all legislators if potential impeachment proceedings are started.
“Lahat naman ng tao may karapatan na mag-file ng impeachment,” Khonghun stated, highlighting the constitutional right to initiate such actions.
“Nasa kanya-kanyang konsensiya na ’yan ng bawat miyembro ng Kamara kung susuporta sila sa impeachment na may magpa-file,” he added.
The vice president faces several allegations, including the misuse of confidential funds in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), as well as purported death threats against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.
These issues have prompted investigations by the Department of Justice, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police.
Khonghun noted that the House leadership has not formally discussed impeachment proceedings, focusing instead on legislative duties.
“Kami kasi sa administrasyon, hindi pa namin pinag-uusapan patungkol sa impeachment dahil abalang-abalang kami lalung-lalo na dito sa aming mga gawain sa Kongreso. Talagang gusto natin malaman kung ano ang katotohanan, gusto natin malaman yung mga nangyari patungkol siyempre sa confidential funds ng Office of the Vice President at saka sa confidential fund ng Department of Education,” he said.
He stressed the importance of uncovering the truth behind the alleged misuse of P612.5 million confidential funds.
Manila Rep. Joel Chua, chair of the House Blue Ribbon Committee, clarified that he had not received any communication from House leadership regarding impeachment.
“Wala naman po akong nare-receive na communication,” Chua stated.
House Deputy Majority Leader and La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega V, also another leader of the Young Guns, addressed circulating rumors and emphasized the House’s commitment to legislative inquiries.
“Hindi rin po kami natamaan ng mga diversionary tactics,” Ortega asserted.
“As far as the House is concerned… naka-focus po kami sa mga iba’t ibang hearings,” he added.
Chua emphasized that the primary purpose of the committee’s investigation is legislative in nature.
“By next week, mag-file kami ng mga House bills na naging produkto po nito pong investigation,” he said.
Ortega emphasized the House’s commitment to truth and the continuation of hearings.
“We will stick with that and we will still continue kung anong trabaho na ginagawa namin sa House of Representatives,” he said. (END)
