CHRISTMAS came early for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) released from General Trias City Jail in Cavite.
Twelve PDLs inside General Trias City Jail are now reunited with their families.
They are now free citizens, with the help of the Light of Hope “Parol para sa Kalayaan” program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – General Trias and the city government .
The project was made possible due to the cooperation of the PDLs and the General Trias City Jail officials in making Christmas Lanterns to be distributed by the LGU in various barangays and subdivisions in the locality.
The income from lanterns and other livelihood products was used to finance the processing of the release papers. A portion is also allocated for starting a new life for the freed inmates.
“As early as August this year po, ang ating pong mga PDLs ay gumagawa na ng mga parol para sa buong bayan ng GenTri base po sa napag-usapan namin ni Mayor Jon Jon Ferrer, dahil sa pag-gawa ng parol ay may mga mababago tayong buhay.” Gen. Trias City Jail Warden Bryan Villaester said.
“You , who are temporarily living here in the city jail, you are not here to be judged, you are here to know yourselves, to become good citizens of our dear city again,” Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV said.
“The lantern is a symbol of our Lord, while we are receiving a blessing, I hope we will also be a blessing to others. Be a bridge of their hope, we have the ability and capacity, let’s do this to help our brothers and sisters who are in jail” the mayor added.
The local government will have the PDLs make 400 large lanterns that will be placed in the 33 barangays and villages of the city to help them process their release this holiday season.
Some local officials also gave Christmas gifts to the PDLs.
