CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City, Laguna — Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday night arrested in Cavite two suspects in the hazing death of an Adamson University student in February this year.
According to CIDG-Regional Field Unit 4A chief Col. Marlon Santos, nabbed were Justin Ar-Jay Ramos Fontanilla, 20, of Bgy. Alapan II, Imus, Cavite, and Armando Bocalan Hernandez Jr., 21, of Bgy. Amaya 6, Tanza, Cavite.
The arrest of the two was based on a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 8049 as amended by Republic Act 11503 or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 issued by Judge Armin Noel B. Villamonte of the Binan City, Laguna Regional Trial Court Branch 155 last July 6, 2023.
Members of the CIDG Laguna Field Unit arrested Fontanilla in his house at 10 p.m. on Thursday while Hernandez was caught at 10:50 p.m. on the same day.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said Fontanilla and Hernandez were both implicated in the death due to hazing of Adamson student John Matthew Salilig in Biñan City, Laguna on February 18, 2023.
“Sina Fontanilla at Hernandez ay dalawa sa mga itinuturong suspek sa pagkamatay ng Adamson University student na si John Matthew Salilig dahil sa hazing na isinagawa ng Tau Gamma Phi fraternity noong February 18, 2023 sa Biñan City, Laguna,” said Caramat.
Salilig, who attended the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, went missing for 10 days before his body was found buried in a shallow grave in Imus City, Cavite.
Caramat added the arrested suspects were listed as most wanted persons in Calabarzon region.
