FIVE members of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) on Friday were killed while three others were wounded in an ambush by New People’s Army rebels in Tagkawayan, Quezon.
The fatalities were identified as Cesar Sales, Jeffrey San Antonio, Aljohn Rapa, Johnwell Perez, and Jomari Guno, all residents of Tagkawayan town.
The wounded were Cpl. Marvijun Oller Jr., Lauro De Guzman and Regie Macalintal, also from Tagkawayan.
The clash occurred at Sitio Pag-asa, Bgy. Mapulot near the boundaries of Tagkawayan, Quezon and Labo, Camarines Norte in Bicol region.
Quezon police director Col. Ledon Monte said government forces led by Oller were patrolling when they encountered the rebels at 7:22 a.m. Friday.
The firefight lasted for 30 minutes until the rebels withdrew, with their wounded comrades.
Monte said police are checking the hospitals and clinics in the area for possible wounded communist rebels.
