
Resource speaker Dr. Trisha D. Cendeno from the DOH Health Promotion Bureau encourages participants to sustain the promotion of healthy activities in their respective workplaces to increase workers’ productivity and satisfaction.
DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region recently conducted a four-day planning workshop for the implementation of the healthy workplace in the region participated by 73 representatives from various government and private institutions who pledged their commitment towards the goals of the Healthy Workplace program in San Fernando City, La Union.
In her opening message, Assistant Regional Director Pretchell P. Tolentino stressed the importance of establishing a healthy workplace because it increases workers’ productivity and satisfaction and promotes the health and safety of the workforce. “Having a healthy workplace facilitates healthy habits.”
“The workplace is an important setting for health promotion and disease prevention and we have to implement policies that promote work-life balance and well-being of our employees.
The activity is focused on the promotion and establishment of a healthy workplace which includes; (1) a Physical Work Environment (2) Psychosocial Environment (3) Personal Health Resources and 4) Enterprise Community Involvement.
Participants of the planning workshop were given Facility Improvement Tolls (FIT) a basic tool for assessment and planning for continual improvement in the workplace.
Regional Health Promotion Unit Head Cheryl D. Buhong, who led the workshop, said that the activity is an avenue to acknowledge agencies, both in the government and private sector, who continuously promote healthier working environments for their workforce.
“Our goal is to capacitate participants and encourage them to create healthy workplace by establishing standards that promote healthy working environments for their employees and to sustain if there are already existing policies in place.”
“The workplace is now considered as a setting for health promotion and preventive health activities such as preventing occupational injury and assessing and improving employee’s overall health,” she emphasized.
The planning workshop for healthy workplace is in support to DOH-CSC-DOLE Joint Administrative Order (JAO) No. 2023-0001 providing for the National Policy Framework on the Promotion of Healthy Workplaces and also achieving the goal of Universal Health Care through Health Action Agenda 1: Bawat Manggagawang Pilipino Ramdam ang Kalusugan.”
The activity was held from October 8-11, 2024.
