NAARESTO ang dating kinatawan ng Negros Oriental na si Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. sa Timor Leste, ayon sa kumpirmasyon ng Department of Justice (DOJ) nitong Huwebes ng gabi.
Kinakaharap ni Teves, ang kasong multiple murder dahil sa itinuturong utak sa pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Gov. Degamo noong Marso 2023.
Sinabi ng DOJ na nahuli si Teves bandang 4 ng hapon nitong Huwebes habang naglalaro ng golf sa Top Golf Driving Range and Bar sa Dili, Timor Leste.
Ang pag-aresto sa dating mambabatas ng Negros ay naging posible sa pamamagitan ng pinagsasama-samang ahensya ng batas, kabilang ang International Police (Interpol) at ang National Central Bureau (NCB) sa Dili, sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa pulisya ng Timor.
“Today’s apprehension of Teves is a testament to the power of international cooperation. It sends a clear message that no terrorist can evade justice and that nations stand united in safeguarding the safety and security of their citizens,” sabi ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
“The capture of Teves only proves that through concerted efforts and determination, terrorism can be thwarted and peace preserved,” Secretary Remulla dagdag pa nito.
Remulla urged Teves, “Face your long-delayed trial without setting any conditions, face the courts squarely.”
“Rest assured that the DOJ remains committed to providing regular updates on Teves’ return to the Philippines,”
Inilagay si Teves sa red notice ng International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) noong Pebrero.
Ang red notice ay isang kahilingan para sa mga ahensya ng batas sa buong mundo na hanapin at arestuhin ang isang tao habang hinihintay ang kanyang ekstradisyon, pagpapasuko, o kahalintulad na legal na aksyon.
Nasa pangangalaga ng pulisya ng Timor ngayon ang dating mambabatas ng Negros.
Sinabi ng DOJ na ang National Central Bureau ng Interpol sa Dili ay nagko-coordinate sa isang koponan mula sa NCB sa Maynila at sa Embahada ng Pilipinas sa Dili hinggil sa ekstradisyon ni Teves pabalik sa Pilipinas.
