THE House of Representatives (HRep) became an even safer workplace at the conclusion of the four-day Basic Life Support (BLS) course Tuesday, with 58 graduates.
“Definitely the House of Representatives is now a safer place than how it was two days ago dahil merong tayong mga bagong puwedeng magsagip ng buhay,” Deputy Secretary General for Administration Dr. Edgardo Pangilian said.
Resource person Rosman Espeleta, RN, from the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC), trained participants on the proper application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use of the automated external defibrillator and removal of foreign body airway obstructions.
The training, according to ARMMC facilitator Kent Vincent Morales, can be seen as the HRep’s compliance with Republic Act 10871 (RA) or the “Samboy Lim Law.”
“Basketball legend Samboy Lim collapsed while stretching after a substitution during a pick-up game. (Dahil dito), nagkaroon kasi tayo ng law na dapat every household, may marunong na isa sa BLS,” Morales said, emphasizing that, “Kailangan nating matuto in case na magkaroon ng instances na may sudden cardiac attack or drowning.”
Pangilinan agreed, “(The training) is valuable not only for the House but also for your respective families. I hope that you will treasure yung training na ito as one of the things that we do sa House of Representatives to continuously capacitate our staff.”
The June BLS course is the continuation of the BLS Training at the HRep that began in April 15 and 16, 2024 with 19 participants. The second BLS training held in April 17 and 18, 2024 with 14 participants.
“The aim is to train as many HRep employees as possible, to be able to provide immediate help and support to an emergency. Being knowledgeable in CPR enables one to administer it to a victim, especially while waiting for medical help to arrive and this increases the victim’s chance of survival,” Dr. Michael Bautista of the HRep Medical and Dental Service said.
