THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Center for Health Development received the prestigious Gold Seal of Excellence (SOE) for the during the awarding ceremony conducted by the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) on June 27, 2024 in Sta, Cruz, Manila.
The regional office was one of the three winners for the Center for Health Development Category and among the 14 winners of the GOLD Seal of Excellence for the calendar year 2023-2024.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco expressed her appreciation for the recognition and assured that DOH-Ilocos will continue to support and implement the programs and activities of PITAHC.
“We are truly humbled and overwhelmed to receive the Gold Seal of Excellence. Makakaasa po kayo na patuloy po ang aming pagsulong sa tamang impormasyon at paggamit ng ligtas, dekalidad at epektibong mga herbal medicines upang magabayan at mapangalagaan ang kalusugan ng mga mamamayan ng Ilocos region,” she stated.
Another winner from region 1 for the PITAHC GOLD Seal of Excellence for the Local Government Unit category was received by Lidlidda. Ilocos Sur, Rural Health Unit.
For the hospital category, Mariano Marco Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMHMC) bagged the PITAHC Silver Seal of Excellence Award.
Certificates of Appreciation were also given to San Fernando La Union Treatment and Rehabilitation Center under the hospital category and San Emilio, Ilocos Sur Rural Health Unit and Salcedo, Ilocos Sur Rural Health Unit for the Local Government Unit Category.
DOH Regional Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medical (TCAM) Coordinator, Helen A. Posilero, said she is thankful for being part of the establishment of TCAM centers in Ilocos region. “Napakahalaga po na patuloy nating maipagtaguyod ang paggamit ng alternative medicine sa mga komunidad upang ang mga pasyente ay mabigyan ng tamang patnubay sa pangangala sa kanilang sariling kalusugan.”
The PITAHC’s Seal of Excellence Award is part of the agency’s 5-year communication plan envisioned to promote high-quality practice standards, inspire excellence, and community service, and raise the profile of Traditional and Complementary Medicine among Filipino health consumers and society at large.
Republic Act 8423 (R.A. 8423) mandates the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) “to improve the quality and delivery of health care services to the Filipino people through the development of traditional and alternative health care and its integration into the national health care delivery system”.
PITAHC hopes that through this recognition, Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine will continue to grow and develop to deliver its mandate.
