THE House Committee on Youth and Sports Development chaired by Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III (5th District, Isabela) on Wednesday adopted House Resolution No.1897, recommending two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo to be inducted into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in artistic gymnastics through the Philippine Sports Commission.
Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) Secretary General Rowena Eusuya said it would a big honor for the GAP for Yulo to be considered to the Hall of Fame.
Dy said HR 1897 seeks to enshrine Yulo in the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame pursuant to Republic Act 875, which provides that a candidate for the Sports Hall of Fame must be at least a bronze medalist in any Olympic game.
PSC Executive Director Paolo Francisco Tatad said there are certain criteria for qualification to the Hall of Fame. “However we can give special exception given this too good performance, so that will be our justification for his enshrinement to the Hall of Fame” Tatad said.
The committee also approved the proposed “Bayaning Atletang Pilipino Act” that would grant distinctive honors and privileges to national athletes and coaches, the bill substituted HBs 3869, 5691 and 10759.
Likewise, the panel approved to consolidate HB 10964, HBs 2257, 5066 and 6515 that would mandate operators of all future and existing government-funded sports facilities, venues and other sports related infrastructure to formulate a sustainability plan for such facilities.
The panel also adopted 1) HRs 2003 and 2017, commending Rubilen Amit for winning the WPA World 9-Ball Championship Crown and the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) Women’s World 9-Ball Championship in New Zealand; 2) HR 2019, congratulating chess prodigy Daniel Quizon; 3) HR 1944, congratulating golfer Rianne Malixi for winning the 2024 US Women’s Amateur In Oklahoma, USA ; 4) HRs 1990 and HR 2004, commending Islay Erika Bomogao for grabbing the No. 1 spot in world ranking of female 45-kg elite class of the International Federation of Muay Thai Association (IFMA); and, 5) HR 1963, commending Kian Ezekiel Castigador for bagging two gold medals in the World Taekwondo Grandslam Youth League Finals Held in Wuxi China.
