DEPARTMENT of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac on Saturday said that they will rely on the legal basis and science-based evidences in pursuing justice for Jenny Alvarado, who died of suffocation in Kuwait recently.
Secretary Cacdac explained that they will examine the possible legal liabilities of Alvarado’s employer, particularly if there have been negligence on their part after sending the victim to their rest house where she died.
“Sa ngayon, we look at it in terms of what we can do sa mga kasong nangyayari, kasama dyan ‘yung ensuring na walang kapabayaan ang mga employers, in terms sa taglamig o winter dapat nasa lugar sila na may bentilasyon,” explained Sec. Cacdac.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) already conducted an autopsy on Alvarado’s remains to determine the real cause of her death in Kuwait. Secretary Cacdac stressed the importance of the autopsy that will give a credible narrative on what happened with Alvarado.
“At the end of the day, we will go sa sinasabi ng batas at resulta ng siyensa,” Sec. Cacdac said.
Secretary Cacdac visited the wake of Alvarado in Rodriguez, Rizal this January 18 to give update on the government’s action and investigation on the case. He was accompanied by Undersecretaries Dominique Rubia-Tutay and Felicitas Q. Bay, with other senior officials.
Aside from the financial aid, Sec. Cacdac re-assured the family of continuous help to Alvarado’s five children, particularly in their education. The DMW is partnering with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in giving the family cash and other forms of assistance.
On the swapping of Alvarado’s body, Secretary Cacdac already ordered their lawyers in Kuwait to probe the service provider that made the mistake. This is in order to clarify what transpired and to get possible compensation.
The Senate is set to conduct a hearing on the issue this coming Tuesday that will be attended by Sec. Cacdac, and other DMW and OWWA officials.
Also expected to attend the hearing are officials of NBI that hopefully will give updates on the autopsy of Alvarado
