First prize winners of the “Durunungan” Contest, a DOH People-Centered Activity (PCA) with the theme “Re-create: Recycled Art Contest for a Healthy Agno” held on September 30, 2026
THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region, in collaboration with local leaders and partner agencies, successfully held the “DURUNUNGAN”, a People-Centered Activity (PCA) with the theme “Re-create: Recycled Art Contest for a Healthy Agno” at Barangay Namatucan Covered Court on September 30, 2025, bringing together community members, leaders, and stakeholders in a vibrant celebration of health promotion and environmental stewardship.
The event became a dynamic platform to raise awareness and promote collective responsibility in safeguarding both human health and the environment. Participants showcased their creativity and environmental consciousness through innovative artworks made from recycled materials—symbolizing the power of community-driven solutions toward sustainable development.
“Through recycled art we can greatly reduce the amount of waste generated in the community. And more importantly, we can express our creativity by transforming these waste materials into a work of art which can also be a way to earn additional income,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated.
“Through this activity, we demonstrate that even small actions, when done together, can make a meaningful difference. Let us continue nurturing a future where health, sustainability, and shared responsibility are at the heart of community life,” she emphasized.
The “Durunungan” served as a strong reminder that a Healthy Agno is attainable when communities come together to create, innovate, and take action. It fostered a spirit of “puro kalusugan at kalikasan”, emphasizing the interconnection between public health and environmental care.
Winners of the contest were Brgy. Namatucan 4P’s – Champions; 1st Runner-Up – Brgy. Patar; and 2nd Runner-Up went to Bangan-Oda National High School. They received cash prices and plaques of recognition.
To complement the event, a community outreach program was conducted by the Agno LGU providing medical services, especially to indigents and senior citizens.
Re-Create is an innovative and engaging activity that encourages communities to transform recyclable waste materials into meaningful works of art. Through this activity, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of how everyday actions-such as reducing waste, recycling materials, and protecting the environment-contribute to the larger goal of creating healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.
