Batangas City – Prime Energy will be implementing a scheduled maintenance shutdown (SMS) for the Malampaya gas landing facility for 15 days as a preventive maintenance activity to ensure that the Malampaya project continues to produce safe and reliable energy.
The shutdown is scheduled from 12:01 am of February 4 to 12:00 midnight of February 18. Flaring starts at 7 am of February 4 lasting 30-45 minutes. Gas supply will resume at 12:01 am of February 19.
The primary coverage of the scheduled maintenance work will be on the flare system, to depressurize the whole gas plant from hydrocarbons. They also explained that the gas supply of the plant will temporarily stop.
With this, power plants relying on the gas field will also need to temporarily shift to liquid fuel or condensate to be able to continue to serve the consumers’ electricity needs.
Prime Energy said they already met with barangay officials of Tabangao, Ambulong, San Isidro and Malitam (TALIM), the host communities of the Malampaya gas landing facility in preparation for the scheduled maintenance shutdown. This is because the maintenance activities are expected to trigger noise that may annoy nearby communities.
They also had meetings with the Office of Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas; Batangas City Mayor Beverly Dimacuha ; Bureau of Fire Protection and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management to inform the said shutdown.
Prime Energy also said they will be roaming around with megaphones and tarpaulins to remind the affected residents 2-3 days before the activity.
