Barangay Calsib received ₱15,000 for winning first place during the “Paskuhan sa Barangay: Best Christmas Tree Décor” held in Aguilar, Pangasinan on December 18, 2023. It is made up of recycled materials and adorned with various vegetables, fruits and dried fish (daing) with malunggay fruits as its star.
THE local government of Aguilar, Pangasinan has encouraged all barangay officials to make the “Paskuhan sa Barangay: Exchanging Christmas Tree Décor” a yearly event and make it one of the holiday highlights for the town in his message during the awarding ceremony held at the municipal gymnasium on December 18, 2023.
Vice Mayor Jesus M. Zamuco, Jr., who represented the town mayor during the awarding ceremony, said that the event has led positive impacts such as fostering a sense of community. “Nakita namin ang pagtutulungan ng bawat isa at ang pagsasamahan upang mabuo ang punong pamasko sa mga barangay na isa sa mga pinakatanyag na simbolo ng kapaskuhan.”
“Hindi natin ito tatapusin bagkus ay atin itong ipagpapatuloy at patatanyagin at gagawing isa sa mga simbolo ng Bayan ng Aguilar sa mga darating pang kapaskuhan. Kung ang lalawigan ng Tarlac ay may Belenismo, tayo nman ay may punong pamasko na itatayo at ipapakitang gilas sa bawat barangay ng ating bayan,” he stated.
Zamuco also thanked the DOH regional office for selecting Aguilar as the venue for the “Paskuhan sa Barangay” community playbook activity.
DOH – Ilocos Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the activity is a way to spread the spirit of camaraderie and sharing among the people of the community.
“Napakaganda na ang isang barangay ay may pagkakaisa at nagtutulong-tulong upang maisagawa ang isang proyekto na tulad nito sa isang maikling panahon. Tunay na walang imposible at lahat ay magagawa kung may magandang samahan at pagkakaisa,” she added.
Sydiongco also extended her gratitude to the local government of Aguilar for hosting the event.
The “Paskuhan sa Barangay: Exchanging Christmas Tree Décor”, is a contest to create the “bonggang” Christmas tree in line with the 7 healthy habits messages/themes. It must be made from indigenous and recyclable materials with ornaments and decors that are unique in every barangay. All 16 barangays of Aguilar participated in the activity.
The winner of the first place went to Barangay Calsib who received ₱15,000 in cash prize; the second place winner – Barangay Bayaoas received ₱10,000 cash prize, and the third place winner – Barangay Calsib received ₱6,000 in cash.
All the non-winning barangays received ₱3,000 cash as a consolation prize.
The “Paskuhan sa Barangay – Exchanging Christmas Tree Décor” is part of the Community Health Promotion Playbook for December to make healthy behaviors the easier choice by everyone, every time, everywhere for healthy people, and healthy communities for ‘Healthy Pilipinas’.
