A POLICE officer on Saturday was shot dead after a Philippine Air Force reservist mistook him as the one who shot and wounded the suspect’s younger brother in a road rage in Bgy. Bukal Sur, Candelaria, Quezon.
Cpl. Reniel Marin, 29, assigned at the Candelaria Police Station Intelligence Section, died on the spot.
Town police commander Lt. Col. Dennis de Leon said Marin’s alleged killer, Efren Azul, a PAF reservist, fled after the shooting.
Prior to the killing, Azul’s brother, Marfie, 35, a tricycle driver, was shot and wounded by another trike driver identified as Teodolo Rustia Jr. over a road rage.
Rustia allegedly blocked Marfie’s way, prompting the latter to confront the former, that led to the shooting.
Marin, along with a senior operative, responded and immediately proceeded to the house of Rustia to arrest him.
Azul also arrived at the place to look for Rustia and avenge his brother.
“Thinking perhaps that Marin was the one who shot his brother, Azul quickly pulled out a pistol and shot him at close range. Marin’s fellow cop tried to shoot back but Azul has already fled,” Panganiban said.
A massive manhunt has been launched against Azul and Rustia.
